Company History
Flight prep
Six short years ago, two fledgling theatre companies took their first steps. On the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Loudoun campus, College Community Theatre began to entertain, enlighten, and educate not only the college’s students, but also the surrounding community.
At the same time, six recent graduates of Virginia Tech, who had met as members of the student-run State Your Name Theatre Company at Tech, formed 2nd Flight Productions Theatre Company. Acting as directors, actors, producers and designers, these individuals dedicated themselves to building a company that would make high quality theatre accessible to their diverse community.
Test Flight
2nd Flight soon outgrew the limitations of its home-base theatre in Manassas and needed a larger, more technically advanced venue. NOVA’s Waddell Theatre was an attractive option and CCT, undergoing its own growth spurt, welcomed the additional talent and fresh perspectives offered by the 2nd Flight team. In 2008, the two companies agreed to a one-year test merger.
The new CCT with 2nd Flight Theatre Company (CCT2FT) was soon able to create larger, more successful productions. In August, 2008, Brad Hathaway of Potomac Stages declared “the merger is a match” in his review of bare: a pop opera.
Airborne
In January 2010, the company reincarnated as Taking Flight Theatre Company, with the confidence, professionalism, technical proficiency and unity in purpose our audiences expect and deserve.
